VIOLA EVENTS, COMPETITIONS, AND SCHOLARSHIPS

Tarisio Matching Grant Program: awards up to $10,000 (£6,000) of matching funds to one winning applicant for each Tarisio auction of fine instruments and bows. Open to string players aged under 30 who are currently enrolled in or graduates of a music performance degree program.

 


 

PAST EVENTS

Johansen International Competition: Young string players ages 13-17 are invited to compete for $66,000 in prize money in the Johansen International Competition for Young String Players, which will be held March 21-24, 2012 in Washington, DC.
Washington International Competition will take place in Washington DC from June 8-10, 2012. Violists between the ages of 18 and 28, who are ready to take the next step towards establishing a professional career but are not yet under management, are encouraged to apply. First prize: $8000. Finalists will have the opportunity to play at Kennedy Center’s Terrace Theater.
Aronoff Music Festival, a unique summer retreat of inspiration, refreshment and new ideas for Violists age 14 through adult. Check website for festival dates and other events throughout the year.
5th Annual Viola Celebration to be held October 22-23, 2011 on the campus of the University of Tennessee.

Interlochen’s Viola Institute, a one-week program, to be held starting June 16, 2007 for violists ages 14-25.

Royal Northern College of Music (in Manchester, UK) is holding a public Viola Day on Sunday, 19 June 2005, which will include maker’s stalls, masterclasses, workshops, performances and some mass viola playing.

XXXIII International Viola Congress was in Reykjavik, Iceland, June 2 – 5, 2005.
Orchestral Audition Training Workshop (age 18 – professional) at the Meadowmount School of Music in Westport, NY, May 21-28, 2005. Viola faculty: Boston Symphony Orchestra violist Ronald Wilkison and former Boston Symphony assistant principal Patricia McCarty.

The 2003 Primrose Memorial Concert, featuring Helen Callus from the University of Washington, will take place on Friday, March 7, 7:30 PM in the Madsen Recital Hall at Brigham Young University.
